A former professional UNLV tennis player Denys Pume was named the Assistant Coach for the UNLV Men's tennis program in December 2015. Originally from Ukraine, Pume comes to Las Vegas in 2013 after playing one year for Oklahoma State University. He was ranked as high as No. 43 in the nation doubles while at Oklahoma State. Had an outstanding fall 2013 and posted a team-leading 10 wins vs. four losses in tourney action. After losing his second round match at the ITA Mountain Regional in Las Vegas, reeled off six straight victories to win the consolation bracket. Defeated Denver's Alex Clinkenbeard 6-4, 6-2 to win the consolation title on Oct. 20, 2013. Two years in a row from 2014-2015 was nominated as All Conference team singles and doubles player of the year. Most notably, Pume advanced to the main draw of St. Francis ITA Men's Tennis All-American Championship in Tulsa. In 2015 with his doubles partner Ace Matias qualified for the US Open National Playoffs. During his tennis career was ranked as high as 1,508 in singles and 1277 in doubles by the ATP and 573 by the ITF. Pume earned his bachelor's degree in Communication Studies from College of Urban Affairs (UNLV) in December, 2015.
